Review of Kazaam (1996) by Tom B — 04 Dec 2009
"Kazaam": A bad rap musical about a pedophile genie who will grant a child three wishes. Okay that basically surmises the plot. From a bottle sounding like its having a dubbed over orgasm to Shaq incoherently screaming for a full minute, this film is an exercise in trying to showcase an r&b/ rap soundtrack for kids.
The direction is a bit excessive in the use of slow-mo photography and then later overindulges in a "Mask" computer animation sort of way. Painful, painful film that probably wasn't too much of a stretch for Shaq's acting talent as he really has none that makes me wonder if he still gets flak in the NBA for this rim-clanker of a film.
