Review of Katzelmacher (1969) by Greg B — 26 Sep 2010
Fassbinder created the first uber-slacker film, but it's never mentioned in the same vein as others, most likely because it was more depressing than it was funny. The xenophobic moments with the Greek man (played by Fassbinder himself), the nonchalant dialogue, and the minimalistic scenes with little dialogue could have easily been a minor comedy if made by someone else.
But I guess there really isn't much to push this film into a Fassbinder classic, but like "Love Is Colder Than Death", it shows the talent to come soon.
