Review of Katy Perry: Part of Me (2012) by Glenn M — 07 Jul 2012
Although some are very critical of why this movie was made, saying it was just for cash and publicity, I think that Perry does have a pretty good heart... and it's likely she isn't doing this solely for the bucks. I'm not a huge fan of hers, never have been, since I have very specific tastes in music and don't prefer modern material. But I have to admit: for younger fans, kids in tough situations who want to listen to something to uplift their spirits, she's good. Her movie was very uplifting, and allowed you to learn more about her childhood and the road to becoming a musician. I know some have complained that it doesn't show enough about her life with family and Russell, plus, the break-up, but this movie's target audience - younger kids, pre-teens, and people looking for a feel-good film with fun music - would not have appreciated too much of this, hence why it was left out.
My favorite part of this film was seeing that her journey to being a singer was not a road paved with gold. This can be inspirational to all viewers, especially those interested in art, music, acting and following big dreams. Although it can be tough, it's good to never give in. A cliche story, but positive and lightening nonetheless. It's a fun film to see with a friend.
