Review of Katy Perry: Part of Me (2012) by Hanna M — 24 Jul 2012
My expectations of this movie were slightly low to begin with. I immediately assumed that the film would be solely comprised of concert footage and brief interviews, but I was proven wrong within the first fifteen minutes of Katy Perry's documentary.
Although there were multiple moments of Katy's over-the-top performances, they were shown in such a fascinating and tasteful light that I couldn't help but long to have been present at a show on her World Tour.
As cliche as it sounds, there truly is another person behind the world-renowned popstar. A sincere and entertaining person that demanded my attention and captivated me throghout the entire film. Along with all of the fun of fame and the excitement of touring, "Part Of Me" also showed the true heartbreak that Katy endured through her painful divorce.
It was quite remarkable to see a completely distraught and sobbing woman pull herself together in a matter of seconds to perform "Not Like the Movies" in front of thousands. These moments of strength that Katy demonstrated proved to make a unique and interesting documentary.
Although I harbor no complaints for the film's overall format and composition, I would have desired more interviews from the popstar herself, in order to further develop her genuinity. But overall, I enjoyed the movie and can confidently deem it a success.
