Review of Katy Perry: Part of Me (2012) by Jackeline A — 10 Jul 2012
I have never seen this type of movie before so I really didn't know what to expect. Overall I really enjoyed this movie being both a fan of her music and having attended her concert when she came to town.
They displayed her early years, her struggles coming up in the music industry and how goofy & eccentric her personally is all while matching the scenes with either certain parts of her performing live or just playing her music in the background; they did this perfectly seeing that her music is so good.
Only thing I have to say is, having followed her from early on, there are certain things that were not accurate and/or omitted. I wasn't expecting her complete life story in 1.5 hours however they said her first single was "I Kissed a Girl" when it was actually "Ur So Gay" and she is not all bubble gum and sweet; I have seen her snappy/snotty side in interviews and reality shows like American Idol.
I was quite surprised to see them show when her and Russell Brand broke up and got divorced... you see her crying which I wouldn't have expected to see. The whole film seemed very controlled and under her thumb so it was nice that she choose to show some vulnerability.
Regardless of my regrets on the film, I left the film with a little more respect for her. She is very talented!
