Review of Kate & Leopold (2001) by Pauline L — 22 Jul 2010
Surprisingly effective romantic comedy. Nineteenth century chivalry disarms 21st century cynicism in this film, a time-travel romantic comedy whose best elements -- Meg and Hugh -- overcome loose threads and assorted contrivances to make for a mostly charming and diverting tale.
The characters emerge as human rather than wow us with easy gags. What really makes the movie work is the humor. The laughs keep the pace of the movie moving along quickly. So quickly, that I didn't even realize that the movie was two hours long.
