Vishal bhardwaj takes an otherwise cliched premise: good twin, bad twin mixed up in some misunderstanding involving druglords, corrupt cops, shitloads of money and drugs, and builds a tightly knit plot adorned with some fantastic characters.

Amole gupte's 'bhope bhau,' in particular, is brilliantly portrayed as a marathi don looking to enter the ultra-nationalist brand of politics that has unfortunately come to dominate bombay in recent years.

The man's 'jai maharashtra' is in stark contrast to paresh rawal's hilarious and harmless 'jai maharashtra' in hera pheri. bhope's world is the real deal: a place where second generation immigrants from barabanki, U.P., have no place.

Adding a group of bengali bookies, an almost unnecessary northeastern druglord, and bumbling cops to the mix facilitates the culmination of the intricate plot in an all-out gun battle. a pretty solid soundtrack modulates the pace of the film succesfully.

Shahid kapur and priyanka chopra's performances are heartfely, but not quite stellar. the film rests on bhope, the bengali bookies, the corrupt cops, the druglord: all elements of the intricate plot itself.

However, what the two dudes from angola were doin in the film escapes me. unless they are in some weird way a tip of the hat to the ugandan screenwriter who bhardwaj bought the original script from.
