Review of Kaminey (2009) by Prateek M — 16 Oct 2009
In an attempt to create an effervescent experience the lackadaisical effort by such a putative director falls flat creating an insipid thriller that fails to allure you into the intriguing lives of twins, Guddu and Charlie who get embroiled in unsolicited and unprecedented events that ensue.
Both Charlie and Guddu are completely polarized not only in terms of mindsets and ethics with Guddu an innocuous, docile student in love with Sweeti, a gangster's sister and Charlie an intrepid, discerning bookie but also in terms of speaking disorders with one stammering and the other saying s for f.
How Charlie's recidivism and Guddu's vested interests involve each other is the core of the plot which fails to sustain the charm and appeal and becomes blander as the movie progresses. It is Shahid Kapoor's fascinating performance that consolidates the movie.
He has enacted both the characters with dexterity while Priyanka Chopra has been spontaneous throughout. However, it is the cursory presentation of the story and the transient impact of the rest of the cast with their futile aberrations and hysterics that aggravate its plight.
