Shahid Kapur plays Guddu and Charlie in Vishal Bharadway's Kaminey. Charlie, a go getter works for one of Mumbai's many underworld cartels and aims to become an independent bookie. He chooses shortcuts in an attempt to make it big. On an eventful night Charlie stumbles into bags of cocaine that can get him the money he needs to achieve his dream.

Guddu, is in love with Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) who is pregnant with his child. What Guddu did not know is bound to bite him because Sweety's brother is Bhope (Amol Gupte) a politician who uses the Marathi connection to gain votes. Guddu's alliance with Sweety gets the Bhope faction all riled up and ready to kick some action.

How Guddu and Charlie's life get intermingled that same night because of Tashi (Tenzing Nima), a drug peddler and a couple of cops forms the crux of the story.

The director does not take the audience to be ignorant kids. After seeing so many stories based on underworld now who would not know how the Mumbai Mafia works? So there are no introductions for any character. You know who is who just by the role they play and that is such a relief to you because Vishal gets to the story fast and does not waste time beating around the often beaten bush.

Just because it is a mafia story does not mean that it is all dark and gloomy and boring. It is pretty hilarious. Hilarious even in the direst of times which gives an edge to the whole movie.

Screenplay is crisp, dialogues are brilliant and the story has a pace to it that no one can stop and keeps you glued to the edge of the chair. No useless songs interrupting the flow. It sails like a boat on a fine day at the ocean.

With a touch of Guy Richtie and Tarantino, Vishal gives you the best of Hollywood and Bollywood in one Slick Flick, Kaminey. It has the right amount of Western touch to this very much Indian movie. It is refreshing to see that some director actually values the story over self and star cast.

I would definitely not suggest taking your kids to the movie owing to the high violence but otherwise it is a brilliant watch.
