Review of Kalifornia (1993) by Niltiac R — 05 Feb 2009
Slick neo-noir road movie boasts a lot of style - but the excellent cinematography and production design only highlight how pretentious and shallow the script is. Uneven performances: David Duchovny is stiff (his voice-over narration is laughably written), Juliette Lewis is typically obnoxious, and Brad Pitt plays his role like a cartoon character with a ridiculously phony accent.
Director Dominic Sena brings a music video mentality to the whole thing, which just makes this a great-looking road trip, but one that's long and annoying. Carter Burwell's score is not one of his best.
