Review of Kalifornia (1993) by Mel : — 05 Aug 2007
I don't like this film even though it has two of my favourite actors - Brad Pitt and David Duchovny. It's too scary. Yes I'm a sissy, I don't like horror or thrillers unless they are really special. And this film isn't special.
It's a road movie, of an author and his photographer girlfriend roaming the roads of California with his intended book subject, a sadistic killer Brad Pitt and his girlfriend, who left a trail of bodies along the road. Watching this you have to wonder - where are the police when you need them? Of course David's character has to handle things by himself, and the police finally arrived after the bad guy's finished.
Brad Pitt's character isn't fascinating at all, just plain scary. If you want to see a psychotic Pitt, 12 Monkeys is better. He's great there. And David Duchovny is David Duchovny, the gorgeous melancholic looking guy. If anyone is interesting then it must be Juliette Lewis, playing the childlike girlfriend of Pitt's character. Yes I don't even remember the characters' names and didn't bother to check. It's a waste of stressful two hours!
