Review of Kalifornia (1993) by David Q — 25 Sep 2010
Great movie with a vast different approach to serial killing, in two ways even. Powered by the supergreat performance of Pitt as an instinctal, hilly-billy, groace,lying-for-good-will husband of this marginal couple.
they try to flee from the cost of living where they did (in a trailer) and go on a journey to California. Just as the other rather obsure but entrepeneur couple try to find a new life. Befor this journey, while Brian collects info for a novel, visiting one old crimescene after the other, they get aqointed with eachother and he is even dragged into the ways of Pitt's extroardinairy character, Early.
This captures a huge social dillemma which is kinda fun. On the other hand he realy gets outta hand because of his 'instinct' and mostly greed for money.Although he does want to thank them for the journey.
The ending is grave and meaningfull, sad and exciting. The movie closes with an even sadder message of the naive Adele, played gracefully by Juliette, spoken into the recorder. 'A very good book this will be!' (seen twice).
