Review of Kajillionaire (2020) by Mauro_Lanari — 22 Mar 2021
(Mauro Lanari).
While waiting for the Big One chosen as a symbol of annihilation due to death, is the ascetic approach of anticipated detachment from any bond preferable, or the antithetical hedonistic approach? Diogenes or Epicurus? Miranda July doesn't care to take the question seriously, so she's even less interested in providing a shred of answer. She is content to continue her journey as an indie filmmaker, Sundance-addicted, with the usual predominance of the bizarre eccentric. So the philosophical problem suddenly fades, leaving just a 26-year-old lesbian (otherwise why Rachel Wood?) scammed and robbed by her parents albeit with still a flicker of moral rigor.
