Review of Kahaani (2012) by Shruti B — 10 Mar 2012
A Kahaani well told. It's been so long since I've seen a good thriller in Bollywood. But not anymore. Kahaani delivers on it's promise of being an on the edge thriller. It keeps you hooked till the very end and finishes up with a climax that is sure to exceed your expectations. And it is special because it's just simple story telling that works for it. It doesn't require all the glam-sham of it's peers like...Race,Dhoom,etc.
Kudos to the director! I particularly like the style of narration and the detailing of each character. Be it the psychotic contract killer, the helpful cop, Vidya, or any other character they each have a distinct style and an unique persona that shines through their performances.
Needless to say excellent performances by the entire star-cast. Vidya adds yet another feather to her cap. The only Real actress of our time. Everyone else are unknown faces but they have done such an good job that I cant think of any better known stars replacing them. Parambrata Chaterjee-the cop guy plays his role well as you instantly connect with his sensitivity as he helps Vidya through her mission.
And finally the icing on the cake is Kolkata- with it's Durga pooja and 'stuck in time reality'.One of my favourite Indian cities is the backdrop to this thriller...what more could I ask for!!
