Review of Kagemusha (1980) by Jordan S — 20 Jun 2007
In all the glowing reviews I've read, they have all failed to mention one thing: that the only reason one could ever like this film is if they happen to be heterosexual man. There no female characters (in the couple of minutes that women are on-screen, they are used more as props than characters) and only one bishônen, who in his second appearance sacrifices himself so that the ugly ones can live on.
I did like the theatricality of the first few scenes, and all the stuff about the mysterious flute plying at night, but after that I was just listening to the music and might as well have had my eyes closed.
