Review of Kagemusha (1980) by Alexandre D — 14 Jul 2008
If Hitchcock was the greatest director in the west then Akira is obviously and deservedly the master of the far east.
At a time where Hollywood seems to be lacking creativity and running out of ideas, it's always nice to watch a movie like this to remind you of the great film history outside the west. You can see the influences and where so many ideas are stolen or borrowed from.
This movie isn't perfect and although I was fine with the duration, I felt that they could have showed us more regarding the 3 year reign fir the homeless man as the Lord. Other than that and maybe some confusing parts like the battles, this is a fantastic achievement like so many others by this late director.
