Review of Kagemusha (1980) by Ojas V — 01 Dec 2009
A great film in Kurosawa's later period, this is the tale of a theif who is unexpectedly thrust at the head of a massive japanese empire in 16th century Japan. The film is very formal, and sometimes it sacrifices real human touches for political intrigue. Some of the battle scenes are confusing, while others are grand and really a sight to behold.
I definitely enjoyed the performances, especially the lead actor, and the emotion of the film really comes through in the final minutes of the film. We see how honor, greed, betrayal, and dignity are important features of japanese culture.
