Review of Kagemusha (1980) by Matt H — 27 Jun 2014
Interesting story that unfortunately goes on way too long; I think an hour could pretty easily be edited out of this. It is a beautiful looking movie. The relationship between the double and the grandson was the most interesting in the film.
The movie fails to explain why the lord wanted the double to replace him for only three years. What will make his adult son into a stronger position in those three years. It'd be more understandable if it was meant to be a 10 year attempt in order to let the grandson come of age.
Not understanding this point doesn't hurt the film for me, I'm just wondering.
