Review of Kaboom (2010) by Florent J — 17 Mar 2011
I'm an avid Gregg Araki fan after having discovered Totally Fucked Up, Doom Generation, Nowhere and Mysterious Skin a few years ago. I was totally OK that almost no one else I knew got those movies.
So, naturally I was looking forward to Kaboom. Kaboom was pretty damn awful. I tried to like it, and the first half was pretty interesting... However, it devolved into a bloody mess coming to the end.
I kept hoping that there would be some payoff, that there would get some inside joke that might redeem it (and me for watching it!) but there was none. James Duval's exposition/explanation was so poorly delivered that I don't even care that it may have been deliberate.
Just... disappointing. As for the sex scenes that some reviewers seem to go off on, it's 2011, it's not a standout and it did nothing to elevate the film.
