Review of Kaboom (2010) by Pedro O — 28 Apr 2011
Was there ever a stranger movie than Kaboom? With its nonsensical plot that explodes in the most expositorily intense sequence I've ever witnessed, and its rampant sexuality, and its animal masks, and its abrupt, almost infuriating ending, I'd venture a "no.
" But with its B-movie charms that had me reminiscing about Buffy, and its complete defiance of what anyone expects (and arguably deserves) from a movie, Kaboom sort of stole my heart. The film is a mess from start to finish, but it's a ridiculously fun mess.
The way everything "fits together" had me rolling my eyes and struggling to not roll in the aisles with laughter. None of it makes the least bit of sense, but that's part of the charm. It's not explosive, but it's a damned fun ride.
