Review of Kaboom (2010) by Carla M — 19 May 2012
I was recommended to this by the excellent Sound on Sight podcast, and it was just as weird as they said it would be. Switching randomly between supernatural thriller, technicolor teen sex comedy and murder mystery, it's all over the place.
But the dialogue is often really punchy, the direction is stylish and mostly works in a kind of insane way, and it never flinches. Until it comes to ending the film, when it seems to give up trying to make sense and ends BOTH with a bang AND a whimper.
After the excellent first half, this becomes a bit of a damp squib.
