Review of Kabluey (2007) by Will M — 01 Dec 2008
The strangeness of the scenes with the character in the big, blue dotcom mascot suit set against the natural beauty of roadside nature is probably intended and, therefore, successful. The rest of the film feels less like a movie than a mood, so I am tempted to file it in the same category of indie films like The Virgin Suicides or Lost in Translation.
This one is closest to the latter, with its balance of humor and isolation. Pretty interesting to find a film written and directed by its star that is actually interesting, and not just an ego trip. But quirky is definitely the one-word synopsis.
