Review of Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015) by Vasco M — 11 Aug 2015
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is an animated version of the initial storyline from the New 52 version of DC's Aquaman. Very well written and exciting to read, the story is condensed and altered a little for the small screen, and not necessarily for the better.
I'm not a fan of many of the most recent DC/WB animated movies. I don't care for the portrayal of Batman, specifically. The animation seems a little too, for lack of a better phrase, "Japanese.
" I don't like how the faces are drawn and am not a fan of some of the voice casting. Again, I'm specifically referring to Batman, for the most part. Even in high definition, the animation is too dark and cloudy.
Bring back the Bruce Timm days: dark where it needs to be, bright where it needs to be. Andrea Romano doesn't do the casting and I know I'm too attached to Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, Dana Delaney, etc.
, but Andrea did include Jason O'Mara in "Son of Batman," which just doesn't work. Jason O'Mara is entirely too nasal for Batman. Sean Astin as a young-sounding Captain Marvel/Shazam is just bad.
And, this is going to tick of many a fanboy, but I think Nathan Fillion is completely overrated and gets way too much comic book work. His work as Green Lantern sounds lazy. Frankly, if you want to enjoy this story, read the storyline in the comics and make up the voices in your head.
