Review of Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) by Gavin M — 06 Mar 2008
GREAT VISUALS, and an intriguing take on the DC universe, marred considerably by horrific inanities, carried over from the original comics limited series (such as the idiocy of a "fighter pilot" who will not fire his weapons in combat!).
There are also DEEPLY FLAWED characterization's, PARTICULARLY where Hal Jordan (aforementioned pilot) is concerned. Some mind numbing, heavy handed preaching and mis-cast voices do further damage.
Still, these unfortunate short comings CAN be over looked (if you love these HEROES as much as I do) for the bigger picture, which is, a DCU that's never looked better on a screen! On the whole, this second in the series of DVD films is a highly entertaining and nostalgic look at the WORLD'S GREATEST SUPER-HEROES, and their rich history! As a purest, I think this film TOWERS OVER the on again off again, sometimes good, yet critically flawed Cartoon Network JLA series, in many ways! The cast, (of HEROES) for one thing, is FAR SUPERIOR! It's GREAT to see Hal and Barry back in action, in their rightful places! Although, Hal WAS somewhat hampered by bad revisionism, i.
E. dysfunctional characterization. DC fans young and old should certainly have a look!
