Review of Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) by Paul N — 02 Jul 2008
Admittedly I'm not a comics/graphic novel fan. But this was just terrible, all the same. Lousy plot, terrible dialogue, 2-dimensional characters (literally and figuratively). Espousing the typical philosophical crap about how when things are the darkest, just reach down extra deep and pull out whatever you need to triumph is of course the order of the day. The Government can't be trusted, bad guys are denoted by the fact that they pollute and smoke - making this a very up-to-date sort of retro effort.
Of all the characters, Batman seems the most realistic in both vocalization and character portrayal. Or maybe I just dig him cause he's dark and brooding. Ultimately, it doesn't much matter. His role is incidental, but so are most all of the characters in this movie.
They have an amazing cast of 'real' actors & actresses to lend their voices to a cheesy project. Are all these people washed up already to be doing something this bad? I sure hope not! It must be for some love of the genre, but I'd have hoped they could have found a more worthy poster child.
I watched this through the on-demand service from Netflix. I have Verizon FIOS service for Internet, and this movie still lagged during periods of intense graphics & action.
