Review of Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) by Brian R — 14 Jan 2009
Ok. This is an animated film. So it is not an oscar winner. It puts it in a weird place because it's also not a kids' movie per se. The reason I like cartoons for comic book characters is number one, its easy to watch.
The characters themselves are in no way restricted by the medium. The story is simple, but serves the characters well. New Frontier makes a great platform for the DC heroes that make up the cast, this movie also hilights the acting of the vocal cast with my personal favorites going to Neil Patrick harris, and Lucy Lawless.
David Boreanaz who I love in Angel, and Bones overacts Hal Jordan. I like that the story is set in the past, and allows for the characters to appear in their golden age designs. Superman is played perfectly by Kyle Maclachlan.
Im a fand of DC characters anyhow, so I thought this was well done and very enjoyable. The art work in the movie echoes the art from the original graphic novel perfectly. Younger viewers will miss the roles being played by the classic DC characters like the Suicide Squad.
All in all this movie also shows me that a live action Justice League would be too much to deal with. I suggest anyone watching this movie also read the graphic novel. It might make the movie easier to enjoy.
