Review of Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) by Clyde S — 26 Dec 2010
In 2008 Bruce Timm brought us Justice League: The New Frontier.
The film is an adaptation of Darwyn Cooke's graphic novel The New Frontier. The film's basic story is that an entity known as the Centre wishes to eradicate earth of all human life, sounds simple but instead it turns out be a deep story dealing with the social issues of the early 1950s. The movie doesn't really have one main character but three instead, J'onn J'onzz (The Martian Manhunter), Barry Allen (the second Flash), and Hal Jordan(The second Green Lantern). Despite that it's still able to balance out the screen time for each character properly and you're able to get to know the characters. Throughout the film numerous characters make cameo appearances especially in the end.
The cast of voice actors may seem questionable at first but it's not because each of the actors are really good at their characters. David Boreanz gives a great performance as Hal Jordan along with Kyra Sedgwick as Carol Ferris, Carol Ferris is a character I really like because she's different from the other women in that time period because instead of being the traditional homemaker most women were at the time she runs a company and proves she can do it. Barry Allen was my favorite character though because Neil Patrick Harris really does a great job as him. Jeremy Sisto voices Batman and even though he isn't given much screen he is one of the better voices of the famed character. Lucy Lawless is the perfect Wonder Woman despite that she is hardly in the movie at all. Miguel Ferrer voices my favorite superhero the Martian Manhunter and is alot better than Carl Lumbly from the Justice League because he doesn't have a Jamaican accent.
The animation is top notch and some of the best I've seen in a movie. I loved the design of the characters because they're designs that haven't been used in years.
Overall, in my opinion DC Comics finest animated film yet and one my favorite movies that I have ever seen. To Parents; Just because It has superheroes in it does not make it appropriate fro children, this movie is rated PG-13 because it's violent and the movie would just downright be too confusing for a child. If you want something that appropriate for children and has superheroes in it I advise Challenge of The Super Friends from the 70's not the recent Justice League cartoon.
