Review of Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (2010) by Ken B — 15 Feb 2010
If you liked the Justice League cartoon that was on Cartoon Network you'll like this movie. Also, if you've thought of enlisting it's a recruitment*ad for the marines.
Doesn't the strongest super-powered beings on this alternate planet being evil attest to the general nature of its' inhabitants as more evil than our planet's?
There where lots of random little things that stood out to me.
Harley's a monkey. Superman wails on a chick; He also beats up a wigger. Heh heh,.
"this is not like the jedi mind trick".
The moral of the movie that criminals just need stood up to was stupid. I see minor Watchmen inspiration but really nukes aren't a threat. What're they going to do, nuke the moon? Nuke the Earth, committing suicide rather than be ruled by the villains? Owlman takes a position of absolute despair, like the Anti-spirals. It's inspired by the discovery of infinite Earths. Given time, he might've recovered.
There're some kinky touches like Superwoman bites Batman's lower lip + Wonder Woman ties up Superwoman and yells, "submit". I can't believe the writers were ignorant of the S&M connection.
*In the last scene the Calvary that turns the tide in the heroes favor are marines in spacesuits led by the President. Piece by piece I'm giving up on hoping for stories where folks have powers but otherwise act realistically and accepting the nonsensical silliness and colorful attempts at drama in superhero stories as part of the genre, like a big red nose on a clown.
