Review of Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (2010) by Matthew D — 25 Jul 2018
The comic this is based on featured an alternate Earth that was a deviously clever inversion of the regular DC world, in many twisted and unexpected ways and an adaptation could have made good use of the rating for older audiences this series of movies boasts.
Instead this mirror world has none of that depth of characterisation; a straightforward super-powered mob whose members bare only a cosmetic resemblance to the 'good world', an ultimate dastardly plan which is cartoonish and makes no sense and the differences with the good guys are lessened when one of them engages in some dubious heroics (this last point could have been, you know, a point, but it's not even noticed by the other heroes).
There's a touching romance subplot, but it's not given the space it deserves (and is resolved in an unsatisfactory fashion), rather a constant series of over-long fight scenes are shoved in wherever possible without being particularly clever or exciting in execution.
