Review of Justice League (2017) by Nico D — 25 Mar 2018
It really is great to see these characters on screen, coming together and fighting a greater evil. There's some moments of pure magic that rank among my favourite in superhero movies. However it's also a very simple story, as is the resolution, that doesn't feel substantial enough for a property of the calibre of the Justice League. The storied production issues and writing changes are obvious throughout, with some shockingly unfinished cgi and tonal inconsistency with some of the reshot scenes and dialogue. it's shortened runtime doesn't give the 3 new heroes enough backstory for me, and it feels like there should be generally more to this film, but it's not on screen. Despite all that though it just about makes it through without tearing at the seams and coming apart entirely. It is no worse than some other superhero films I can think of and I would say it's worth a watch. Flawed but ultimately enjoyable.
On a personal note, I lament what it could have been. If you're hoping for a fitting follow up to the uncompromising vision of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, you will be sorely disappointed. Take it for what it is however and you'll be able to enjoy it, hopefully.
