Review of Justice League (2017) by Chris F — 23 May 2018
The villain was the only negative point of an otherwise brilliant movie. They dealt with Superman's return perfectly, effectively showed him as the best of the Justice League members, and perfectly set up the much more serious threats lying ahead. This was just a preview, and I expect future villains to be well-planned.
I honestly didn't expect the characters to mingle and interact as well as they did. Everyone had a relationship with everyone, and you could tell that there might be potential future rifts in play, particularly with Aquaman. Cyborg, a hero I was never a fan of, was much better portrayed here.
The ode to the Flash vs Superman race at the end was classic. As was Lex Luthor losing his hair and becoming a bit more serious and less erratic than we saw in BvS. If DC keep playing it like this, the character progression will be clear to see by the next few movies.
I like both DC and Marvel, and hate comparisons, but if people recall Thanos at the end of the first Avengers movie, the horrible CGI face was a far cry from the impressive, more humane version portrayed by Josh Brolin. I expect DC will have a similar future for Darkseid.
I loved Smallville, but it didn't do justice to Darkseid. If the new movies can do that, I would love nothing better.
