Review of Justice League (2017) by C.j. H — 20 Dec 2017

The long awaited Justice League has finally arrived and it sadly stumbles in delivering an enjoyable film or continuing the hot streak that Wonder Woman set up. Warner Brothers and DC just cannot figure out what to do with these characters, nor do they know how to go about delivering these films to the fans.

Justice League is the epitome of the franchise so far with so many moving pieces that they rarely get one thing right. There is no novelty in the film seeing these characters on screen together, partly due to Batman V Superman showing them all already and the other reason is they simply don't have any chemistry.

The action is all a CGI fest, the story is simple yet uninteresting, the villain is weak, and the the heroes most importantly aren't inspired. The single best thing about Justice League is Ezra Miller's Flash, he is actually funny and light hearted, but I feel like this is mostly because of Miller's portrayal not the writing.

With Aquaman already done shooting we will of course be getting that flick, but Warner Brothers needs to take a huge leap back and look what they have in front of them. They seemingly have dozens of films on their slate with no directions.

We have The Flash and Shazam that have been fighting to get off the ground. The Batman with a star in limbo. Three films featuring Harley Quinn and the Joker, as well as a separate and non-related Joker flick helmed by Martin Scorsese.

A Wonder Woman sequel is obviously coming. Joss Whedon is attached to a Batgirl project. The point is, they have endless amounts of plans for these characters and this universe, yet they can't make a good movie.

They are one for five so far, Wonder Woman works because it's separate, it's not worried about franchise building, it tells a story. Justice League is the extreme opposite of what these films should be.
