Review of Justice League (2017) by Gael R — 17 Dec 2017
I love my superhero films but not even Gal Gadot's undeniable charisma could save this dour, dark and soulless film.
You jump right into the plot so fast I thought I had missed the first 30 minutes. There were a couple of bright spots but not enough to save the end result.
The script tries so hard to be lighthearted and fun but the jokes fall flat. I chuckled once and realized it was the only time during the whole film. It feels forced like an afterthought, injected with reshoots after poor screening feedback (didn't they see they were making the same mistakes as Batman v Superman?).
Like George Lucas, Zack Snyder needs to step away from this franchise in order to.
Breathe some life back into it. It is shot so dark and flat that it's not even fun to watch.
Hey Zack, these characters are not dark brooding emo kids.
The script and direction proves he does not understand these characters enough to handle their individual struggles. He manages to screw up Wonder Woman's motivations, make Batman less heroic, Flash an idiot, Cyborg lifeless, Aquaman's powers undefined, and a big reveal hits with such a thud you find yourself not caring at all. The emotional beats had me yawning as much as the action did.
I could go on but like this movie whats the point. On my way out I saw a theater showing Thor:Ragnarock. I wanted to sneak in just so I could leave with a good feeling.
