I feel sorry for Joss Whedon. This is mostly his movie, and it's terrible, but he was forced to make it close to what Zack Snyder had already filmed, and to rush it into theaters in 3 months. The cast didn't want to be there, that much is ABUNDANTLY clear, and the story is a mess of the highest order.
It is a cautionary tale of how to NOT to make a cornerstone franchise film, and is rightfully suffering critically and commercially.
