Review of Justice League (2017) by Paul R — 28 Dec 2017
So I've actually seen Justice League twice already, and I really enjoyed it both times. I'll get the criticism out of the way first, because I've been seeing a lot of it; I definitely agree with some, although others I think are overblown.
I think the story was under-developed, and the villain was pretty generic; the mandate to keep it under 2 hours long may have contributed to this. There's some obvious green-screen effects, and some wonky CGI, although it didn't take me out too much.
Aquaman's development gets rushed, and there's some tonal clashes on account of too many injected quips. But overall I liked what this movie had to offer. It feels like a distinct correction in tone, characterization, and color palette after BvS, and I think it'll please audiences more as a result.
I really like these characters and how they interact, and I want to see more of them. The action was very fun and had some variety, I think it was paced decently given the shorter run time, and most of the comic relief landed for me.
I'd definitely recommend it to people who like superhero movies, and I'd encourage skeptical people to at least give it a shot.
