Review of Justice League (2017) by Brad K — 21 Nov 2017
Justice League wasn't perfect (end credit scene with Lex Luthor) but perhaps all the negativity about this movie is related to a high public familiarity with Batman (Chris Nolan) and Superman. "Expectations were not met" seems to be the running theme from critics.
However, I liked this movie. The characters interacted well together and had some good lines they delivered in a much more human way compared to Batman vs. Superman. Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller gave fresh interpretations of Aquaman and the Flash.
Affleck's seasoned (aging) Batman pulled the team together by force of will and desperation. Perhaps because he is feeling his mortality? Gal Gadot was often the glue holding the scenes together and her action sequences were outstanding.
Ray Fisher's Cyborg got a backstory AND development pretty much all at once. SPOILER: Superman had to come back so he did. He fights his future teammates in a post-resurrection zombie-state, reconnects with his soul and seems to have developed a sense of humor in the afterlife.
All good stuff for limited screen time. The villain and his goals were completely over the top just like every other DCU movie. And how was the human world oblivious to flying zombie bugs everywhere? And why does the rest of the universe want to kill all the humans? Like I said not perfect.
BUT... at the risk of sounding unpopular... Entertaining, engaging for the 2hr running time, and the DCU learned from Wonder Woman how to make their characters likable.
