Review of Justice League (2017) by Cloud T — 22 Nov 2017

Very disappointed. I honestly went to see Justice League with an open mind. I was hoping that more of the positive reviews were right and that once again the 'expert' film critics were too much up their own arses to simply sit back and enjoy a superhero movie. Sadly I was wrong. The story jumbled along through strong and weak scenes - with the weak scenes making it harder to appreciate the story. The only way I can describe the weaker scenes was that they looked too staged, I mean set-up as expected. Sure, all superhero films draw from a basic mix of ingredients and plots but some films do it really well while others fail. Like the fight between superheroes. in Justice League we all knew and expected there to be a fight scene between all/some of the heroes.

But with Justice League you could see it coming a mile off and fell flat on its face when it happened. That's just one example. Then there's the problem of the slotted in 'funny lines'. In particular there's one line 'This guy still bothering you' That;s just so out of character and said off-camera that it sticks out like a sore thumb. This is the first DC film I gave a negative review to. (Suicide Squad I just avoided completely) All the others, even Man of Steel with all its, christian symbolism, I thought was fun - at least that was consistent with the sentiment and ethos of the comics.

I was hoping to get a glimpse of Darkseid and the New Gods but no - The post Credits gave us a hint of something cheesier and groansome.

Justice League's poor story, visually, narrative and character development, let down the whole superhero genre. Seems it's down to Marvel's Black panther to restore our faith in what a comic to screen superhero movie looks like.
