Review of Justice League (2017) by Joshua W — 21 Nov 2017

The movie was thoroughly enjoyable and all of the characters were great. If you weren't excited for a Flash or Cyborg movie (or at least seeing more of them) you will be now. Most of the bad reviews are incredibly hyperbolic. While there are some iffy CGI spots, surely do mainly to the time constraints after the reshoots, it's no where near as bad as people are making it sound. Especially given some of the other CGI heavy movies we've gotten this year, comic book or otherwise. The story was a lot more simple and straight forward than BvS, take that as you like. The complaints about the villain are partially warranted, partially misunderstood. He did start of strong and end comparatively "weak", but it wasn't as much the threat of HIM that was supposed to bring the League together as much as it was what he was going to do. The only real complaint I have about the movie is the run-time and the score (and some unnecessary Whedon cringe lines). I feel like almost every "issue" stems from the short run time which clearly left not only a bunch of trailer scenes on the cutting-room floor, but presumably a lot more development for all the characters (including villain). The short run-time also made the movie seem just a little too fast-paced and I think some more character development/drawn out scenes could have flowed better. Than there's the score. Almost completely forgettable in every way sadly. I walked out of the movie and couldn't even think of a scene that I recalled hearing any scores in because it was that underwhelming and uninspiring to the mood of the scene it was in.

Overall, while not the best DCEU movie in my opinion, it was in NO way "bad". It was a good, albeit more basic/generic, comic book movie that developed great characters and got me excited for the future movies. Will say however that I believe the movie would probably be better as a whole with a 2.5hr run-time and more Snyder/less Whedon.
