Review of Justice League (2017) by Lewis C — 25 Feb 2018

Justice League is a very underrated movie in the DCEU. Although the movie has its clear flaws, the standout characters and on screen appearance of the finest DC heroes make Justice League an enjoyable and worthwhile movie experience for anyone.

The movie kicks in at just over two hours, and this is very noticeable as a lot of scenes are cut short and the transition is very choppy, especially in the first half. Warner Brothers should have let the movie have a much longer run time, as there is a lot to tell and show in this movie.

There is also an obvious differentiation in the tone as well, as the movie did have two directors with different views, such as Josh Whedon's more colourful and lighter tone. Despite these noticeable and sometimes frustrating flaws, all the heroes are standouts and generate great chemistry with one another.

They each have their individual moments, where we learn about who they are or where they are at in their development. This is where the run time can be a downfall, as we don't learn enough about Aquaman, the Flash, and Cyborg due to their stand-alone movies being scheduled for future releases.

It would have been nicer to see some more of these characters origins. However, they all prove to be very likeable and relatable characters. Batman and Wonder Woman return as well, as they build on their arcs from previous DCEU films.

The return of one character is also a major plus of the movie, and is finally the big screen adaptation many fans have been waiting for. The villain Steppenwolf is weak and fully CGI, and proves to be another disappointing villain in the superhero movie genre.

The action makes up for many of these flaws however, particularly Steppenwolf's battle with the Amazons and the final battle with all the heroes coming together as a team. Overall, Justice League has it's obvious flaws, but they are easy to overlook with the amazing heroes and fun action sequences.
