Review of Justice League (2017) by Matthew W — 20 Jul 2018
I wanted to hate this film. Mostly I wanted to hate it because I loathed Batman Verses Superman and Man is Steel. I wasn't fond of Batman at all or Superman. I wasn't fond of the writing. Point is there was a lot to hate and not enough amazing (Alfred, Martha Kent, Wonderwoman) to balance it out with love. Wonderwoman was amazing but the franchise was falling so flat is was becoming a thing people (me included) LOVED to hate.
This was a surprise. I liked it. I enjoyed it and there was so much more to love. All the new characters, though rough, spelled hope for the entire franchise just as Wonderwoman continues to. Even the most hated of them all, Batman, seemed to find footing in his role and start coming into his own, giving the character more places to go and a new dimension, breaking out of old tropes.
Was it perfect? No. But it doesn't deserve the bad rep it's accrued from critics.
