Review of Just Wright (2010) by Brian D — 27 Aug 2010
I just saw this movie on the flight to Chicago, and you know what? It wasn't too bad.
At first, I read the synopsis and who it starred and I thought I was going to HATE this movie. But I was pleasantly surprised!
The movie stars rapper Common and Queen Latifah. Common is a pro NBA basketball star who falls in love with Latifah's cousin after he meets Latifah at a gas station. After a knee injury, Common's career is in question as he's recovering from his injury. His romance with Latifah's cousin fizzles while she's his physical therapy coach, nursing him back to health. As he starts to heal, he realizes that he relies on Latifah to "get back in the game" and falls in love with her.
What makes this movie as good as it is is that it's sweet. The acting is pretty stale, but certainly not contrived, which is nice. The dialogue's pretty good, with most of the weight on Common and Latifah. All in all, not too bad. I was shocked I didn't hate it!
