Review of Just Wright (2010) by John M — 01 Nov 2010
Finally! A rom-com that has the right amount of humor, feeling, and of course charm, thanks to the cemestry between Queen Latifah and Common. Latifah's Leslie, a physical therapist who wins the heart of Common's NBA player when he hurts his knee during a game and his gold-digger fiancee walks out.
The romance between these two are well-earned, with Latifah shining and rapper Common gaining momentum as an actor. What makes Just Wright a welcome rarity is that it addresses society's disregard of women of color, over 30 and plus-size while giving the genre the kick it deserves.
While some of it is predictable it is nevertheless a joyous rom-com about real people that avoids the slap-stick approach we've seen to death. Go see it.
