When I saw the movie trailer, it looked like a pretty thin and predictable romantic comedy, but then movie reviewers praised it as surprisingly good. So I saw it and (surprise!), it was pretty thin and predictable.
The gold-digger character was a caricature and it wasn't believable that anyone would have really fallen for her tricks. But on the plus side, Common had enough basketball mojo to look convincing in his role, and it was refreshing to see an NBA star portrayed as a gentleman and decent, caring human being.
