Review of Just Visiting (2001) by Just Johnny G — 10 Jul 2007
I watched this film shortly after my stress breakdown in 2001/2002. My wife and kids were with me. I just laughed out loud at the comedy antics. The plot centres on Count Thibault (Jean Reno) and his servant Andre (Christian Clavier). Thibault drinks drugged wine and murders his bride to be the Fair Rosalind (Christina Applegate). An eccentric English wizard (Malcolm McDowell) transports the count and his servant into the future (2001 Chicago) to be precise to escape execution. It is also a parody of the class system. Count Thibault owns his servant.
Needless to say the comedy is about the reaction of two 12th century Frenchmen to the 21st century and vice versa. Christina Applegate also plays Thibault?s present day offspring. Julia Malfete. Reno and Clavier are a perfect foil for each other. In fact, Clavier reminded me of the bumbling Inspector Closeau. Does Thibault enable Julia to become assertive? Does the wizard get Thibauld back to the 12th century to rectify his mistakes? Having enjoyed the comparative good life of 21st century Chicago, does Andre follow his master back to the past where he will be treated like the proverbial dog. I enjoyed the Sonny and Cher ?I Got You Babe? ending. When I feel down or upset, I go to the library and hire this film for a week. I still laugh aloud, particularly at.
Andre?s slapstick humour at the restaurant.
Thibault?s drunken pub scene.
