Review of Just One of the Guys (1985) by Franz P — 31 Aug 2007
A very good 80's movie that's been forgotten over the years. "She's the Man" is definitely influenced by this piece of gem. My favourite character is definitely Buddy, the sex-crazed brother.
Everything he says is pretty hilarious even though some of the statements he makes are politically incorrect. Although the main prince charming of the film is a bit underdeveloped, he's still somewhat charismatic so the film works.
Joyce Hyser deserves to be commended for doing a goob job posing as a guy. When I first saw her wearing men's clothing, I gasped and was at awe. I also liked the bit about women not being taken seriously.
The whole "Why don't you become a model instead?" thing is addressed well and a good starting off point. Overall, I'd recommend this to people who miss smart and witty teen comedies.
We rarely get those kinds nowadays.
