Review of Just Friends (2012) by Diana A — 20 Aug 2011
Over the past couple of weeks I've seen people die, people abused, people loose loved ones and the Earth destroyed, twice; (I mean in movies obviously, even I'm not that unlucky; although thinking about it, if I've seen the end of the world twice and I'm still here, maybe I'm not doing so bad after all). Anyway, it's probably about time for a Hollywood comedy.
Just Friends is a fun film and I really enjoyed it. It even made me laugh out loud a couple of times, which isn't bad for someone with no sense of humour and a deeply pessimistic and cynical outlook on life. A film about being in the 'Friend Zone'. It manages to successfully walk the line between what's funny and what's just stupid. It looks good and the acting's great too. The DVD I watched even had a decent 'making of' as well. Of course, it's a typical Hollywood story, so it is exclusively populated by upper-middle-class 'beautiful people'; and don't expect the story to be especially believable either. The one big downer is that unfortunately, as it's basically a rom-com and I enjoyed it, I'm now going to have to make an appointment to see a doctor to arrange for some (male) hormone replacement therapy.
Recommended for people who like good, funny films about people and relationships.
No cats and no decapitations.
Top badass moment? It has to be the 'outing' of love rival Dusty Dinkelman by Chris Brander. The 'smoking gun' all love rivals look for. (I mean this in the catching him with another woman way, not the gay way.).
