Review of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) by Stu B — 10 Jul 2018
A lot of sound and fury signifying--well, if not exactly nothing, then (based on the ending).
The promise, at least, that (surprise) there will be another one of these coming down the pike before we know it. Noise--a lot of it--fueled by unbridled, full-blown fear and fury are the special of the day here: creatures roar, humans scream, guns blast, bombs explode. Hell, it isn't just the monsters themselves that contribute mightily to this flick's undeniable "wow" factor--it's the fact that multiplex rooftops are (apparently) staying in place despite it.
All.
All the usual suspects are here: the dino-whisperers, the dino-hunters, the cute and spunky kid running for her life. And the beasties themselves are a veritable all-star line-up of Jurassic Age whumpers and thumpers. (There's even a brand-new one who, in the next installment, will no doubt crush his punier rivals beneath his outsized feet.).
But there isn't much character development and, frankly, not a whole lot of plot, either.
The granddaddy of them all, the first "Jurassic Park", is still one the scariest, most suspenseful movies I've ever seen. "JW:FK" doesn't come close.
Still, if you like jaw-dropping FX (as always, the creatures DO look awfully impressive)...if you enjoy watching wanton destruction...and, of course, if you've been a die-hard fan of the series from the very start, then this is the movie for you.
Earplugs will be available at the door.
