I think people forget it's a movie about dinosaurs. It doesn't need to be deep, or doesn't need to have crazy character development. Its dinosaurs. People like to say the very first movie had deep character development.

No it didt, I loved it and saw it in the theater and I can say everyone that left that theater all those years ago went saying "oh those characters stories were amazing" they were saying "yay dino scary" like they did here.

I enjoyed it, I'll see it again.
