Review of Jurassic World (2015) by Johnathon W — 07 Jun 2018
Best sequel to "Jurassic Park" to date, that while not a classic like the original, still manages to captures its own share of fun & wonder. The cast is solid, for the most part, with Chris Pratt cementing his leading man status, playing a man of action who looks right at home riding alongside a pack of raptors.
Bryce Dallas Howard's character, Claire, has the real arc of the film, morphing from a career driven woman to a caring aunt willing to take on a dinosaur to save her nephews. However, Vincent D'Onofrio is boorish as a cliche villain.
The real stars, of course, are the dinosaurs, who are brought to life thanks to stunning visual effects with great character. The raptors, while 'tamed', are still some of the scariest creatures ever put on film while the new addition, D-Rex, is a true movie monster.
Director Colin Trevorrow crafts a fun story with nice call-backs to the original, but a bit too much sometimes (the kids have the same problems as those from "Jurassic Park"). The action is great, though, especially the final sequence that will have audiences cheering.
Overall, not a classic, but a great time at the movies.
