Review of Jurassic World (2015) by Bradley W — 05 Jun 2016

Jurassic World is a fun popcorn flick that manages to be best sequel of the franchise yet, but lacks the awe and wonder of the first film. The original Jurassic Park is one of the great film achievments ever, and holds a strong spot in pop culture and the heart of fan for over 20 years. So everyone was very pumped to see Jurassic World, especially after the failure that was Jurassic Park III. I can honestly tell you that the movie is a lot of fun and is very exciting. The dinosaurs look fantastic and the action scenes didn't disappoint. Chris Pratt once again shows that he is a phenomenal as a leading actor, with his charm and humor carrying the films cast. Bryce Dallas Howard is also great, and I like seeing the different layers she had to give to play this role. While the characters were very much more cartoonish than the previous films, they still worked well and added to the films enjoyment. While nothing will ever stand up to the joy of seeing the traditional effects and animatronics in the first film that made the dinosaurs feel real, this film has merit. The dinosaurs are very cool and do feel alive, instead of just a background effect. I loved the references to the first Jurassic Park, and they didn't feel forced either. The script isn't anything to get excited about. They open up the park, the dinosaurs get out, and people die. We have seen it before. But they gave us a new angle by creating a new dinosaur called Indominus Rex, which escapes captivity and becomes an unstoppable killing machine. Its an interesting idea, even if it does take away from the adventure and discovery aspect that I was hoping to see again. The film is one big hunt for a big dinosaur. Luckily the film brought back that sense of fear that made the first film so famous. I was actually freaked out in several moments of the film.

Overall, Jurassic World is a fun experience that may lack the spectacle and greatness of the first film, but makes up for it with breathtaking visuals, awesome action, and a lot of dinosaurs.
